Juniper SFP+ Transceivers

The enhanced Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP+) is an enhanced version of the SFP, and is designed to carry speeds of data up to 10Gbit/s. It also supports 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel. They can be found in switches and also in network interface cards. They have a large capacity to connect to different kinds of optical fibre and are very flexible. This is why designers consider them to be highly desirable.

SFP+ was designed to have a greater port density, and designers followed on from the GBIC interface to achieve that objective. SFP devices are known as mini-GBIC.

Juniper XFP Transceivers

XFP transceivers are designed to be hot-swappable and protocol-independent. These devices are capable of operating at wavelengths of 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm, and able to function over a single wavelength or use dense "wavelength-division multiplexing techniques".

Designers prefer to use XFP because they leave a smaller trace than other devices. They are smaller than the XENPAK and can help the designer utilize space.
